People are always writing to me and asking, "Hey umlungu, did you learn any new Zulu songs today that you can share with us?" The answer to that question is usually "yebo" [yes], so here's one to please all the musically inclined (though it, like just about every song we have learned, is probably of the "you had to be there" variety):
Ntabezikude
Ntabezikude we ma!
Zing'sithela wena.
Dilika ntaba sibonane.
Translation:
Mountains are Far
The mountains are far...
They are blocking me from you.
Fall down mountain, we will see one another.
That's it. You're probably thinking: only three lines? You'd be surprised. You can learn a lot, grammatically, from those three lines, and you can apparently also sing them over and over for a long, long time without it ever getting old.
Anyway, it's a sweet song. Try it out on isithandwa sakho [your loved one] or maybe even ishende lakho [your secret lover] next time you're away from him or her.
That's all for today. Sizoxoxa futhi [we'll chat again]...

When you say 'people are always', is that isiZulu for 'i dreamt it'?
